1998 -- the NEMA Technical Committee started the "NTCIP Assigned Numbers" document to provide a listing of numbers that have been assigned for use within the NTCIP. The NTCIP assigned numbers are assigned similar to those assigned for the Internet community.

NTCIP 7001 provides a listing of those numbers that have been identified for use within the NTCIP suite of protocols. In many cases, the NTCIP Assigned Numbers Authority (NANA) assigns numbers directly; in other cases, NANA accepts the assignments from bodies such as the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). Within each section, the ultimate registrar is indicated.
