This standard defines how data is transmitted over ethernet links.

NTCIP 2104 is a subnetwork profile. It calls for the use of the IEEE LLC and MAC protocols over a 10Base5, 10Base2, 10BaseT, or 10BaseF physical interface. This configuration represents what is used in a typical office LAN environment and an Advanced Transportation Controller.

In May 2001 -- the Profiles WG proposed to the Joint Committee that 2104 v01.09 be accepted as a Recommended Standard.

In June 2001 -- the Joint Committee accepted 2104 as a Recommended Standard. Thirty-six user comments had been received and resolved by the Profiles WG.

In February 2002 -- NTCIP Standards Bulletin B0067 sent 2104 v01.10 to AASHTO, ITE, and NEMA for balloting and approval.

Approvals -- NTCIP 2104 was approved by AASHTO in March 2003; approved by ITE in December 2002; and approved by NEMA in October 2002. NTCIP 2104 v01 is Jointly Approved.

In February 2006 -- The published version of the Joint Standards Publication NTCIP 2104:2003 v01.11 (September 2005 edition) was available as either a PDF download, or for order as a printed hardcopy with a softcover. FORECAST:

The NTCIP 2104 PRL is expected to be available in March 2006.
