Description of Document: NTCIP 1208 defines data elements used for the control and status monitoring of CCTV video switching devices. The data elements that control CCTV cameras, lens, the pan/tilt units, and camera-generated titles and labels are defined in NTCIP 1205. Video switches are deployed in traffic management systems to switch video sources (such as cameras, VCR playback, and digital video decoders) to video destination devices (such as monitors, projectors, and VCR recording inputs). The NTCIP 1208 switching standard controls the switching of video inputs to outputs, including the block switching of input and output groups, and the time-sequenced programming of multiple inputs.

NTCIP 1208 defines data elements that are specific to CCTV switches, and defines standardized data element groups that can be used for conformance statements. The scope of this document is limited to the functionality related to CCTV switches within a transportation environment.

User Comment Draft History -- In July 1999, the Joint Committee accepted NTCIP 1208 v01.04 as a User Comment Draft. In January 2000, NTCIP Standards Bulletin B0041 sent v01.04 out for review and User Comment. NTCIP 1208 has also been titled "Video Switch Control (VSC).

In August 2003 -- The Joint Committee accepted NTCIP 1208 v01.11 as a Recommended Standard. In May 2004, NTCIP Standards Bulletin B0094 sent v01.11d to AASHTO, ITE, and NEMA for balloting and approval.

Approvals -- NTCIP 1208 v01.11d was approved by AASHTO in October 2004, approved by ITE in May 2005, and approved by NEMA in November 2004. NTCIP 1208 v01 is Jointly Approved.

In December 2006 -- The published version of the Joint Standards Publication NTCIP 1208:2005 v01.12 (October 2005 edition) was available as either a PDF download, or for order as a printed hardcopy with a softcover.
