VERSION v01 HISTORY -- In 1996 and 1997, AASHTO, ITE, and NEMA balloted and approved the Recommended Standard TS_3.4-1996. In 1997, the printed version of the Joint Standards Publication NTCIP 1201:1996 was available for order.

AMENDMENT 1 HISTORY -- In March 2001, NTCIP 1201 Amendment 1 was Jointly Approved. AASHTO approved 1201A1 in October 1999; ITE approved in March 2001; NEMA approved in December 1999. The NTCIP 1201 Amendment 1 still carries the title "Recommended Amendment to TS_3.4-1996," draft v98.01.07, with the filename ts34amendment1-v7.pdf, available below.

From 2001 to 2006 -- NEMA approved one-year extensions of the requirement to reaffirm or revise 1201:1996, while waiting for 1201 v02 to be completed. NTCIP 1201:1996 v01 was superceded when 1201 v02 was approved. NTCIP 1201:1996 v01.10, which includes 1201 Amendment 1 v07, is posted below. VERSION v02 HISTORY -- In 2001, the GO WG started drafting NTCIP 1201 v02, which was coordinated with 1103 - STMP, and used the format in 8004, SMI. In September 2001, the Joint Committee accepted 1201 v02.14 as a User Comment draft. In February 2002, NTCIP Standards Bulletin B0071 sent 1201 v02.16 to the SDOs for user comment. Version 02 included: revisions suggested by user comments; adding objects for auxiliary input/output; updates to reflect the new format proposed by NTCIP 8004; and an initial attempt at providing UML (sequence, class, and state chart) diagrams to further document various rules and concepts. In October 2002, the Joint Committee on the NTCIP accepted 1201 v02.24 as a Recommended Standard. In April 2004, Standards Bulletin B0092 sent 1201 v02.26 to AASHTO, ITE, and NEMA for balloting and approval. NTCIP 1201 became the responsibility of the merged Base Standards and Profiles (BSP2) WG.

Version v02 Approvals -- NTCIP 1201 v02 was approved by AASHTO in October 2004; approved by ITE in March 2005; and approved by NEMA in November 2004. In March 2005, NTCIP 1201 v02 was Jointly Approved. During July 2004 to March 2005, the BSP2 WG disposed of letter ballot comments, and produced several minor version changes. For example: v02.27 to v02.28 worked to dispose of NEMA ballot comments per JC direction; v02.29 moved Deprecated objects from Annex B back to the MIB module; the BSP2 WG voted for consensus on v02.29; and v02.30 to v02.31 inserted Deprecated and Obsolete definitions and revised Annex B. Version v02.32 included editing for publication.

Version v02 Available -- In December 2006, the published version of the Joint Standards Publication NTCIP 1201:2005 v02.32 (October 2005 edition) was available as either a PDF download, or for order as a printed hardcopy with a softcover. AMENDMENT 2 HISTORY -- Amendment 2 was drafted to revise the Daylight Savings Time object to support the change is DST included in the Energy Policy Act of 2005, and to take effect in 2007. Other object moves and corrections were also included. In December 2006, after being accepted as a Recommended Amendment by the Joint Committee, Standards Bulletin B0116 sent Amendment 2 v10 for balloting and approval. In August 2007, due to ballot comments that were received, the BSP2 WG proposed, and the Joint Committee withdrew their acceptance of 1201 Amendment 2. Bulletin B0123 notified the SDOs to suspend balloting. Amendment 2 reverted to the "draft amendment" stage.

VERSION v03 HISTORY -- The Amendment 2 revisions and additional revisions from the A2 ballot comments, were drafted into the major version v03 revision. In November 2007, the Joint Committee accepted 1201 v03.03 as a User Comment Draft, and standards bulletin B0126 sent v03.03b for review and comment.

FORECAST:

Fall 2007 -- The NTCIP 1201 v02 updated MIB and PRL are expected to be available in 2007.

As of November 2007 -- The BSP2 WG was expected to dispose of the 1201 v03 user comments in February 2008.
